The Jive Quartet is a group of seasoned musicians that first came together in 2005 after playing together in various projects, sharing a common interest and love for Jazz.

Rick "Hollywood" Thompson - Saxophone, Clarinet
Hollywood is a seasoned veteran of the US Navy Fleet Band, playing the Tenor Sax and clarinet. He has been playing music for over 40 years for the Navy, and the cities of New Orleans and Memphis. Hollywood's musical career has seen him span the globe appearing on TV and large stages with the Navy Band as well as Percy Sledge, Pete Fountain, the great alto saxophonist Richie Cole, Sleepy LaBeouf, Wolfman Jack and Ernie K. Doe.

Mike Skaltsounis - Piano, Organ
Mike was already playing a variety of instruments, including the piano, guitar, cello, and trombone by the age of 12. Mike studied classical piano at a highly regarded music school for 12 years, and continued studying the piano at Virginia Tech in the mid-1970's. He passed on several invitations to join local bands in Virginia Beach, instead choosing to pursue career opportunities on his own in the Los Angeles area. Since his return to Virginia and the D.C. area in 1995, he's decided to focus more on Jazz inspired by Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans, and McCoy Tyner.

Jive Jong - Bass, Guitar, Vocals, Harmonica
Jive Jong has been playing music since the age of 16, primarily focusing on the bass guitar. But, he is also a proficient guitarist who studied under Jim Kanas while at Northern Illinois University in 1993. Jive Jong grew up in Chicago, where he was immersed in the Blues and cut his teeth on bass, guitar, and harmonica. Jive Jong has performed with a variety of bands in Chicago, Denver, and Washington DC including Otis Rush, Tab Benoit, Darryl Davis, and Shirley King. Jong also owns a bass shop in Alexandria named Jive Sound, where he sells and repairs basses, amps, and effects.

Paul DeCastro - Drums, Percussion
Paul is the youngest in the group, but probably the most talented. Paul studied under the great Todd Lucia for years, and currently teaches drums to folks of all ages. Paul has been playing Jazz drums for years and is proficient in a number of styles from Bop, Latin, Cool, Big Band, and more. This is one dangerous dude on drums, a combination of Art Blakey and Max Roach with some Latin sizzle.
